Jimmy Bean’s Does Not Play Fair

I don’t order catalogs.  My husband can vouch for my lack of willpower when in the presence of yarn – especially sale yarn – so I don’t tempt myself.  I also try to buy the majority of my yarn from Little Knits so I can at least argue that I spent 50% less than I would have if I were buying the yarn anywhere else.

But I needed  10 skeins of Berroco’s Peruvia Quick for my Aidez cardigan and none of my local yarn stores had 10 skeins in the color I wanted, and Little Knits did not have any so I ordered it from Jimmy Beans – who only had 14 skeins left in stock of the color I wanted (Whoo!)

So they had my address.

And today this arrived.

Do you see what it says?  The “hand-dye issue”.  I’m sure that the picture is a little blurry because I am also sure that my body was “all a-quiver” as I was looking at this.  See, I had already looked inside and saw . . . .

madelinetosh!!!

Now madelinetosh yarns are the kind that every yarnie just wants to have in their stash when that special shawl or sock pattern comes along – when you want to make a showpiece garment or accessory.  It’s special – it’s yummy – it’s . . . madelinetosh.

But there was more – there were . . . Misti Alpaca yarns – (do you hear the sigh as the words are being said – like they are falling off the tongue?).

I had just added my first skein of Misti Alpaca to my stash last month and have been just enamored with the depth of color in my one lone skein of yarn.

But even that was not the kicker – the catalog opened with pages and pages of one of my favorite yarn company’s color combinations – Lorna’s Laces.

It probably helps that Lorna’s Laces is out of Chicago – my favorite city in the world – but her color combinations so spark the imagination that her yarns are among my favorites.

But still, I have so much yarn in my stash right now that that I thought I could put this aside – I could be strong – I didn’t need any yarn right now – but wait . . . .

What’s that?

Oh not fair, not fair!!!!!  How could I be expected to even turn the page – how could I be expected to close this book and not place this order!!

This is not a want – this is a neeeeeeeeed.  Do you see it?

THEY HAVE A YARN CALLED ROBOT OVERLORD!!!

How do I not order Robot Overlord and make something for Vash?!!!  I have to get it.

Oh Jimmy Beans – this is soooooo not fair.

About Shelly R.

I am a Mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, an attorney, a crafter and the granddaughter of an amazing woman - my Polish Grandmother. My Grandmother gave me so much, through her love and her patience, her sayings and her time teaching me how to craft and to give to others, that it seemed fitting to share some of that wisdom, to tell some of her story, and to chat about life and crafts in a way that would be a testament to what she gave me.

Please – after Vash got home I showed him the yarn and he proceeded to circle all of the yarns he liked in the catalog. I think there are 19 colors he didn’t circle – he loved all the rest (grin).
