Wednesday Home and Garden Report – Nature, Robots and Automatons

While painting on the front porch, Vash announced that he likes three things.  Nature, Robots and Automatics.  “Automatics?” I asked.  He paused.  I said “Automatons?” He smiled and said “Yes.  Automatons”.

So lets start with Nature.

In the garden we are switching from flowers to vegetables.  In the flower department we still have echinaceas, phlox, hydrangeas and black eyed susans.  We also have nasturtiums . . .

and chrysanthemums.

We are finally harvesting our yellow cherry tomatoes – which the boys eat like candy.

I wish they would eat them in their salads as easily as they do off the vine.

The boys were busy weeding the cherry tomato plants now that they have discovered how yummy yellow tomatoes are.

And we finally have our first red tomato – small – but red!

So on to our robot/automaton section of home and garden.

One of our overall projects for the house is to turn the boys room into a spaceship command center.  There are plans for walls which look out into the universe and metallic dressers and desks which would be in their ship.  So we are focusing this week on the “metallic” aspect of space ships and robots and automatons and . . .

dressers.  Okay, this is not metallic yet – but since this started out as a white dresser it is on its way.  It has its grey base coat and will have a tempered pewter glaze added.  The drawers are in a different metal – going more for a coppery look.  (That is what he wanted).

They started out white . . .

they got a brown base coat . . .

and then a metallic glaze.

It is not finished yet.  I am doing this on the front porch and we have had rain and major humidity and everything has to dry before I can get the next coat on.  But it should be done this week and I will post pictures of the finished project next Wednesday.  In the meantime, have a great and productive week.  Hawk Studio update is coming tomorrow.

About Shelly R.

I am a Mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, an attorney, a crafter and the granddaughter of an amazing woman - my Polish Grandmother. My Grandmother gave me so much, through her love and her patience, her sayings and her time teaching me how to craft and to give to others, that it seemed fitting to share some of that wisdom, to tell some of her story, and to chat about life and crafts in a way that would be a testament to what she gave me.

A spaceship command center! Wow! I can’t wait to see this!

Heaven forbid we do something normal like just paint the room blue. This is what watching HGTV with them has resulted in. They want a David Bromstadt bedroom. Sigh.

We had planted our garden before we went of vacation to Myrtle Beach. We left the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend. Our garden is CRAZY with ripe tomatoes and cukes. We gave orange cherry, grape and large yellow and red tomatoes this year. We did lose our zucchini plants a few weeks ago. They produce a few very large veggies and then wilted away. Not sure what we did. Definitely excited to see the command center!

Our cukes just never made it past the monsoons in late spring. Our stuff is ripening late because apparently our hose has some dog chew issues so they were not getting the watering they should have had during our desert heat spell. Sigh.
