Hawk Studio – A New Handbag

Okay, not the most inventive title, but I am exhausted.  This is the second day of a 6:00 a.m. wake-up time after two months of not waking up to an alarm clock.  Chip is running slow too.  He said we have jet lag.  By next week I hope to have my body clock better adjusted to the school schedule.

You may have noticed that I have not been as regular with my posts.  Between getting everyone ready for starting school, a couple of tropical storms worth of rain, making sure we get to the Renaissance Faire and my own Court and work schedule, things have been a little off-kilter around here.  I am hoping to be back on track in the next week or two and beg your patience.

I did not post our Wednesday Home and Garden post this week because we can’t get enough dry days for Chip to finish the work under the livingroom bay window and a picture of my soggy – but weeded – strawberry patch would not have been so interesting.  I am hoping for a few drier days to get the flower gardens weeded but at this point I am thinking that the next post will be us starting to build our ark.  Sigh.

Don’t expect a Food on Friday post this week either as I have not had the time to shop for it yet – and with the kids in school and Markus’s football practices starting at 5:30 now, there is no time to cook with them until the weekend – but this weekend we will be at the Renaissance Faire all day Saturday and at football scrimmages and soccer practice all day Sunday.  I have to figure out how to do this.  Maybe Mondays . . . .

The good news is that Chip did find some time to hide out in the barn after the boys went to sleep and get some leatherwork done.

Chip pulled together a quick double-braided mug strap

This retails for $25.00.

He also did a custom dagger frog which coincidentally fit his latest dagger. (grin)

The custom frog and dagger sheath together would retail for $100.00.  If you saw us at Faire last weekend you probably saw this set.

Chip also made a belt made for Roy – a friend at the Faire – which was delivered last weekend but we forgot to get a picture of it.

Chip also finished a new handbag.  It has a shoulder-strap which incorporates a mystery braid.

It is completely hand-stitched.

and has a back pocket with a “mirror” inner pocket (same size – just on the inside of the bag).

This bag will retail for $175.00.  I love it.  I really like the shape – it just feels kinda organic.

So that is our Hawk Studio post for the week.  We still don’t know if we will be at Faire next year – still working out how to fit everything into this life.

Gotta run – dinner is on the table and Markus and Chip are getting ready to run out the door to football practice (again).  Have a great evening folks.  I will be knitting a sleeve.  🙂

About Shelly R.

I am a Mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, an attorney, a crafter and the granddaughter of an amazing woman - my Polish Grandmother. My Grandmother gave me so much, through her love and her patience, her sayings and her time teaching me how to craft and to give to others, that it seemed fitting to share some of that wisdom, to tell some of her story, and to chat about life and crafts in a way that would be a testament to what she gave me.

I’m still trying to figure out how Chip does the mystery braid. While you sit and knit your sleeve tonight, I will be with you in spirit, knitting a ribbed hat, which is turning out quite nicely, and I want to keep it. Love you!

You make me giggle – you want to keep everything lately. Probably all that wonderful high-end yarn that is running through your fingers while you are doing it. 🙂 Next time you are here, he will show you how to do a mystery braid – I love the look of it. I finished the sleeve – decided I did not want it to be so short and am now adding another two inches to it. I hope it will be long enough.
