Hometown Halloween

We live in a little village in a rural county.  Alot of what I like about here is that the kids are growing up doing things that they might not experience in a bigger or more urban area.

Halloween starts at school – with the annual parade of all of the elementary school students around the school.

Vash was the first of my kids to come out with his class.  You really can’t miss Vash when he is in the line.Next was Jesse.  You always know Jesse by his huge never-ending smile.

And finally our “Harry”

Amazing isn’t it?  No one knew it was him.

Just like with Harry Potter, you have to ask to see his scar.

We did not have a chance to really show you Markus in his full costume before because he was lame last week – but luckily he was walking just fine for Halloween, so let me show you our Harry Potter.

We felt that Markus really needed to practice his wand skills to be Harry

Because you never know when you have to fend off an attacking Storm

The boys go trick or treating early so they can be back to line up for our village Halloween Parade.  It starts at the convenience store across the street from our house and – with fire truck accompaniment – continues down Main Street east for two blocks to our village firehouse.

Vash’s best friend Nathan walked with us this year – he’s the Luke Skywalker with us.

And then comes the costume contest at the Firehouse.  This is a big deal to the boys – last year each of them won a prize so expectations were high this year because we all felt that this year’s costumes were sooo much better.

But alas – the judges just were not with us this year.

Well, except for one kid.

Who won FIRST PRIZE!!

He won $6.00!!!!

Then we all head home and finished handing out treats, finished homework and finally took off the costumes to be packed away for future creations.

So October is over and the costumes are done and I can finally start thinking about . . . Thanksgiving.

So from our house to yours.

Happy Halloween.

About Shelly R.

I am a Mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, an attorney, a crafter and the granddaughter of an amazing woman - my Polish Grandmother. My Grandmother gave me so much, through her love and her patience, her sayings and her time teaching me how to craft and to give to others, that it seemed fitting to share some of that wisdom, to tell some of her story, and to chat about life and crafts in a way that would be a testament to what she gave me.

Thanks!!  The weather killed the decorations – it warmed up enough yesterday such that when the boys got home from school all of their snow goons had melted.  They were very sad about that.  Poor Vash was really crushed.  He tried so hard to keep them alive.  But other than the decorations, everything else went great, so on the whole, everyone ended the day happy.
